SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has shared his initial thoughts on Kaizer Chiefs loanee Donay Jansen, who joined the Tshwane-based club during the recent transfer window.
The 21-year-old, who was promoted to Amakhosi's senior squad last season, made his debut under interim coach Cavin Johnson.
After being handed a professional contract at the start of the current campaign, Chiefs decided to loan Jansen to SuperSport to gain valuable experience before potentially returning to compete for a place in Nasreddine Nabi's team.
Jansen has already made two appearances for SuperSport across all competitions.
While Hunt acknowledges that the youngster is still adapting to a new playing style and finding his ideal position, he has been impressed by his footballing ability and potential.
HUNT ON WHAT HE MAKES OF DONAY JANSEN
“Obviously, Donay came on the last day of the window. So, we need to find out where he plays, because every team's got a different way of playing. And I think he's a very good footballer,” said Hunt after SuperSport’s victory over Richards Bay on Friday night.
“And I feel sorry for him, because where we need him, I think it's going to be tough for him to play. But yeah, he's a good footballer. The problem is no reserve league, these type of things.
“He needs games. You can't just train, train, train every day. So, I think we're pretty out of Africa.
“That doesn't help me, because Africa's good to play one or two, and give them a chance. So, he's going to compete, and hopefully he gets a better run down again.”
