Innocent Maela teases ‘good friend’ Vincent Pule ahead of MTN8 clash

Orlando Pirates captain Innocent Maela has sent a teasing message to recently departed teammate Vincent Pule, who has joined SuperSport United as the two sides are set to face off in the MTN8 this weekend.

The Buccaneers will host Matsatsantsa on Saturday, 3 August at Orlando Stadium at 6 pm in what will be the quarterfinal of the top eight competition.

Pule will get to play his first game in the colours of Swanky Boys against his former side which he left just a few weeks ago.

Reacting to the left-footer’s exit, Maela has wished his “good friend” an “injury free” season at SuperSport taking into account that Pule has been plagued by injuries in recent campaigns.

However, their friendship will be put aside on Saturday and Maela has expressed his desire to apologise to Pule after the match having defeated him.

“He is a good friend, a good player and a good human,” said Maela.

“You don’t spend six seasons at Pirates without a good spirit.

“I wish him all the best, and a successful and injury free season. Hopefully I get to say sorry [for beating you] to him after the match!

“I am looking forward to playing against him.”

Meanwhile, speaking to the media on Tuesday, Pule said facing his former teammates would be an interesting encounter after moving to United.

“It's going to be an exciting game. For me as well, it's going to be an exciting match to play against them in the first match. It's going to be an exciting one and I'm looking forward to it,” he added.

“Playing for coach Gavin [Hunt] motivates me a lot because where he was coaching me before, we won the league and trophies. So, we want to see SuperSport get a trophy this season.”
