Vincent Pule opens up on Orlando Pirates exit

Newly signed SuperSport United winger Vincent Pule has opened up on his departure from Orlando Pirates.

The 32-year-old left-footer departed the Buccaneers after spending seven seasons at the Mayfair, scoring 23 goals and providing 12 assists in 146 games.

Long-term injuries sidelined him, particularly over the past two seasons. Consequently, he lost his regular starting position in the team.

Pule said he left Pirates to increase his playing time and rediscover his joy for football.

“As a player, you always want to be on the field. If it doesn't happen, you always have to work hard to improve yourself,” said Pule as quoted by KickOff.

“Last season, it didn't happen. This season, I am at SuperSport and I am very happy and hope to be getting more playing time.

“No [| wasn't unhappy]. The thing is when you are not on the field, you can only be happy for the other players. So, for me, it was just to support everyone who plays and when given the chance, make sure that I take it.”

Interestingly, Pule’s debut for the Tshwane side will be against his former club Pirates.

He stated it would be an exciting encounter taking on his former teammates.

“It's going to be an exciting game. For me as well, it's going to be an exciting match to play against them in the first match. It's going to be an exciting one and I'm looking forward to it,” he added.

“Playing for coach Gavin [Hunt] motivates me a lot because where he was coaching me before, we won the league and trophies. So, we want to see SuperSport get a trophy this season.”

Meanwhile, United head coach Gavin Hunt revealed that Pule is ready to be thrown in against his former employers.

“He’s fine. He did the medicals. In the weeks he’s been here, he’s running and playing, so he should be able to play,” said Hunt.

The match will be on Saturday, 3 August at 6pm at the Orlando Stadium.
