Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 Chippa United: Nabi concerned by ‘fearful’ Amakhosi

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi admits his side were far from their best despite winning 1-0 against Chippa United at the FNB Stadium on Sunday.

Chiefs needed a moment of brilliance from Mduduzi Shabalala to down a stubborn Chippa, who also had their moments, and unlike it has been recently, they managed to stay tight at the back to claim all three points.

While he is delighted that his team secured a win to end their three-match winless run, Nabi feels they played with so much fear, something he wants to change going forward.

“We needed to start on the front foot from the beginning, in the first half we were good, not very good but good, the only issue was to score the first goal and in the second half we played with fear,” he told SuperSport TV after the game.

What is worrying Nabi?

“When you play with fear, you play with the handbrake, you don’t go forward or back, but it’s understandable, it’s psychological because the last results were not very positive and the players wanted so much to get three points that sometimes they felt like not going forward, just to sit back and defend. But after these three points, we are confident we can build from this.”

It was also the first clean sheet in the PSL for Chiefs this season and Nabi hopes it is the beginning of a turnaround after witnessing his side concede easily in their previous nine league ties.

“Congratulations to everyone, Bruce as well, he made good saves, but we’re not there in our quality of game that we want to put forward but we believe going forward we can build and have more consistent quality games.”
