Kaizer Chiefs confirm massive blow with 10 set to miss Siwelele FC clash

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that up to 10 players are out with injuries ahead of their PSL clash with Siwelele FC on Wednesday.

Chiefs shift attention to domestic action in midweek after playing out a goalless draw in the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round against AS Simba of DR Congo on Saturday and are looking for a return to winning ways.

However, they will have to do without 10 players who are out with various injury issues, which is a big setback for co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.

“The medical team are currently managing a growing injury list, with George Matlou, Ethan Chislett, Paseka Mako, Bontle Molefe, Given Msimango, and Rushwin Dortley all sidelined,” Chiefs confirmed through a statement on the club’s website. “Msimango and Dortley, in particular, have been out for extended periods, posing selection challenges for the technical team.”

Chiefs, however, remain optimistic that the situation will improve soon with three players expected back in the coming days although the prospect of the trio playing on Wednesday look bleak.

“Despite these setbacks, there’s a silver lining. The squad is seeing a wave of recoveries that could bolster the team in the coming games. Lebohang Maboe, Etiosa Ighodaro, and Nkanyiso Shinga are edging closer to full match fitness, offering the coaching staff a welcome selection dilemma,” added the statement with Thabiso Monyane among those with fitness concerns.

Chiefs will come up against some familiar faces as a number of Siwelele players either featured for Amakhosi or are on loan at the club from Naturena such as Tebogo Potsane and Christian Saile, who moved to the club permanently, while Samkelo Zwane and Happy Mashiane are loanees.

Chiefs have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions, with three draws and as many defeats over that period, and are looking for a first league win in nearly two months since beating Golden Arrows on August 30.

The Glamour Boys have since lost to Sekhukhune United followed by draws against Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu FC, increasing the pressure to win and get back on track, as they are currently fourth on the log with 15 points from eight games, six behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, but with two matches in hand over the Brazilians.
