The 2025/26 story

Kaizer Chiefs finished third in the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign, for the first time in six years, which was no mean achievement for the Soweto giants who had missed back-to-back MTN8s.

Nevertheless, the management felt the need to make changes in the technical team. Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, who took over from Nasreddine Nabi. But they failed to defend the Nedbank Cup won in the previous season to end a decade-long trophy drought.

Amakhosi further struggled in the Carling Knockout and dropped in the group stage of the CAF Confederation League.

Da Cruz fails first two tests

Fernando Da Cruz took over from the duo at the beginning of the ongoing campaign.

The MTN8 quarter-final fixture against Golden Arrows was his first test. Unfortunately, he failed to deliver as Brandon Petersen’s mistake saw Amakhosi crash out.

The second test was to help the club to get into the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup, but were undone by Zambian side Red Arrows. The teams tied 1-1 on aggregate before the latter won the penalty shootout 3-2 to advance.
