Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly preparing a new two-year contract for striker Ashely Du Preez whose current deal runs out in June 2025.
Du Preez is among key players at Chiefs and as he enters the final months of his contract, there is reported interest from Portuguese side Vitoria SC, who could secure him as a free agent by signing a pre-contract in January.
Mindful that they could lose one of their talismen for free, Chiefs are now ready to offer him fresh terms to fend off any suitors, or at least protect their prized asset from departing for free.
Chiefs still rate Du Preez highly
“It’s on the cards,” a source privy to what is going on regarding the striker’s situation told Soccer Laduma.
“But they have not received anything in writing as yet. But something will happen soon. All the involved parties are happy with what’s happening at the moment and that is why they have offered him another two years on his contract until June 2027.
“The club still believes in him despite a few bad games here and there. So, I think in January, all would have been settled from the way things are going.”
Will the striker stay at Naturena?
Another source confirmed to the publication that the new deal will be signed before the January transfer window so that Du Preez is not able to enter into negotiations with another club.
The former Stellenbosch striker has been at Chiefs since 2022 and has scored 18 goals while providing seven assists in 69 games.
Three of those have come this season where he has already made 10 appearances for the Glamour Boys.
