Kaizer Chiefs Transfer News: Star set to ditch Amakhosi for UEFA Champions League club in Europe

Kaizer Chiefs might lose their star defender Aden McCarthy in the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old had a good breakout campaign with the Glamour Boys, playing a crucial role in helping Amakhosi finish third in the concluded 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign.

McCarthy made 31 appearances; 23 were in the PSL, where he had a goal, with six coming in the CAF Confederation Cup, where he also found the back of the net once. The remaining two appearances came in the Nedbank Cup and Carling Knockout, respectively.

It could have been more for the Bafana Bafana international, but he was out for some time owing to injuries. Nevertheless, he had done enough to attract interest from Europe.

“Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy is set for a move to Sabah FK who have just won the Azerbaijan Premier League and qualified for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League,” iDiski Times reported.

“Sabah, founded eight years ago, is the former club of Hendrick ‘Pule’ Ekstein, and since his time at the club, they have grown in leaps and bounds, winning two domestic cups and now their first league title.

“They will start in the first qualifying round of the Champions League, but there’s optimism, with the off-season investment incoming, they will make a major impact in their debut in the competition.

“Sources close to Chiefs have confirmed a deal has been struck, with the player set to depart this evening in order to finalise the transfer, which is believed to be a three-year deal with an option to extend,” they concluded.
