In a significant move for the club’s leadership, Kaizer Chiefs have announced the appointment of Bheki Shongwe as their first-ever Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), effective immediately.

Shongwe, a familiar face at Naturena, will work closely with the club’s founder and chairman, Dr. Kaizer Motaung. The appointment follows long-standing speculation that Amakhosi were looking to strengthen their executive team with a new CEO.

Shongwe transitions into this new role from his previous position as a non-executive director on the Chiefs board. This is not his first executive stint with the club; the seasoned businessman previously served as Managing Director from 2009 to 2012.

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly monitoring TS Galaxy striker Junior Zindoga with a view to signing him to strengthen their attack, according to Soccer Laduma.

“The club’s scouts believe he can fit in at Chiefs. They believe he is a finisher who needs just to be in the box and finish those chances which players like Lilepo and Duba create. So they are monitoring him and that’s what I can tell you for now,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

AmaZulu defender Sandile Mthethwa is heading into their penultimate game of the season against Kaizer Chiefs feeling that they can upset the Glamour Boys.

Usuthu host Amakhosi but there is little to play for as Chiefs have already secured third place while the best AmaZulu can manage is fourth spot on the log. Mthethwa, however, wants his teammates to approach the game with ultimate professionalism.

“We just want to maintain our position. All 30 games in the league are important, irrespective of what’s at stake at that time,” Mthethwa stated as per the Sowetan.

“Finishing on a high note boosts your start in the new season, so we can’t have the mentality to say this Chiefs game is a dead rubber. No! We’ve set a high standard, so next season one of the goals is to qualify for CAF tournaments.”
