Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen remains hopeful that he can make the Bafana Bafana squad to the World Cup after a brilliant season.

Petersen has been instrumental in Chiefs’ run to a third-place finish in the PSL and kept his 15th clean sheet on Saturday when Amakhosi beat AmaZulu FC and hopes to be rewarded with a spot on the plane to the World Cup.

“I think, for me, you know, the hope is always there,” Petersen admitted on SuperSport TV as per iDiski Times.

“But at the end of the day, God is in control. We can only control what we can, and that’s performing week in, week out.

“That’s the only thing I’m in control of. So, the rest, I leave it in God’s hands, and let’s see what happens.”

Chiefs coach adds pressure on Broos about Amakhosi star

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze is among those who feel goalkeeper Brandon Petersen deserves to be in the Bafana Bafana World Cup team.

“I just wish to see Brendon Petersen going to the World Cup because he deserves it by the qualities that he has shown, as well as the consistency that he has shown throughout the season,” Kaze told the media.

Kaze explains why Kaizer Chiefs deserve more

Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze is impressed by the progress the club has made so far but feels they should have done more than their third-place finish, if they had been more consistent.

Amakhosi are set for their best season in six years and while there have been massive improvements, Kaze feels it is a missed opportunity as the title race was wide open.

“I can say that this season, the league had no dominating team. Everyone was competing, and we were very close until probably late January,” said Kaze as per FARPost.

“But it’s a lesson that we learnt from what we could have done differently, maybe to stay in contact with the log leaders. But if you say the difference between the points now and the previous season, it’s true that there is a big difference. This team deserves better things.”
