Kaizer Chiefs slammed for losing ‘best player’

Former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef feels the club showed lack of ambition by allowing young defender Aden McCarthy to leave after one stellar season in the senior team.

McCarthy was promoted to the senior side last term and was a key player but he has since left Naturena for Azerbaijan Premier League champions Sabah FK.

“If you are constantly changing players, it will be difficult,” Ben Youssef said on Metro FM. “We can see that with the situation involving Aden. His contract came to an end, and he left the team. Aden played more than 60 or 70 percent of the matches last season and was one of the team’s best defenders.”

“Now you have lost him and must find someone to fill his position. If you are building something, you have to keep your best players and continue strengthening the squad by bringing in additional quality players. That is how you eventually compete with and surpass the other teams.”

Biyela wants Zwane alongside Da Cruz

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Thembinkosi Biyela has made a passionate case for the club to recruit Arthur Zwane as assistant to incoming head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

Biyela argues that Da Cruz, who is still settling into South African football culture ahead of his delayed arrival at Naturena, needs a locally trusted figure to bridge the gap between the foreign coach and his new dressing room.

“Don’t worry about the belief that says local coaches are backstabbers, you just need to trust your technical staff as a coach,” he told KickOff.

“So you need an assistant the players will relate to, and that assistant should be none other than the current AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane. Chiefs should just pay Zwane whatever needs to be paid to get him and bring him to Naturena.”

Scottland FC board director Tonderai Sakupwanya has outlined the lessons he hopes his club can draw from facing Kaizer Chiefs in the 2026 Toyota Cup, pointing to Amakhosi’s 56-year record of top-flight survival as a model for long-term sustainability.

The two sides are set to meet on 26 July at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, with Scottland entering the tie off the back of winning the Zimbabwe PSL title despite being only three years old as a club.

“We are a young club, but we are now looking for ways to build sustainability. How does a club survive for 50 years at a high level, like Kaizer Chiefs? We are on a learning curve,” he said as per FARPost.

“Silverware is part of it, but we are also learning how a club sustains itself and maintains high quality for a long time, just like Chiefs.”
