Latest Kaizer Chiefs news in the last 24 hours, including Nasreddine Nabi ‘betrayal’, Ashley Du Preez’s uncertain future, Aden McCarthy lauded after move & more.

Did Kaze & Ben Youssef betray Nabi?

Former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has addressed the issue of alleged backstabbing of Nasreddine Nabi by him and Cedric Kaze.

Chiefs struggled for results in the early stages of Nabi’s second term while the coach also experienced some personal challenges and needing to be by his wife’s side. He eventually parted ways with the Naturena based outfit, but Youssef and Kaze remained and were tasked with leading Chiefs together as co-coaches.

In his farewell message, Nabi didn’t mention the two coaches, a fact that further fuelled allegations.

“The decision was coming from coach Nabi, to resign. And it was a discussion, the only three people who know the reality of what’s going on are Mr Kaizer Jr, Coach Nabi and Cedric. They were together in every meeting, in that moment. Just to go back, it was the accident of the wife of coach Nabi,” Ben Youssef told iDiski Times.

“Then he travelled back for a month, we took charge for three games, then people tried to push and saying we’re doing the job, not coach Nabi. You were there in those press conferences, and we always said the honest and direct thing that we’re together, the game plan is coming from coach Nabi, and we’re working as a team, it’s the whole technical staff.

“Then he came back, and after one month, it was two weeks, then a decision coming from him to resign, he told them he wanted to leave the team. So, there’s the answer. How do you want to resign and then be accused that Khalil and Cedric did this or that?

“I was with him for three seasons at Young Africans, ASFAR Rabat, and at Chiefs – so if I was bad as people said, why would he bring me along all the time? Anyway, it was a moment of this season. But there’s people at the Village who can confirm what happened. I prefer not to speak much about this subject, from my side.

“I know from the first day to the last day, I was more than honest with him. I helped him a lot, and he knows this. But if people want to talk and say we [backstabbed] him, it’s for them to say. People at Chiefs know the story and everything,” he added.

Du Preez out of Amakhosi?

Kaizer Chiefs have yet to firm their decision on the potential departure of misfiring striker Ashley du Preez despite growing talk of an exit.

Du Preez spent the past season without a goal to his name with his last strike coming as far back as April 2025. Since that goal, he played 19 games without adding another strike including the 13 from last season.

He has another year remaining on his contract with effect from July 1.

Then with Fernando da Cruz coming in as head coach, there could be need for the new head coach to make his own assessments after going through all player reports that have come his way.

The challenge facing Du Preez is that with a season to run on he needs a solid season ahead of him for his value not to drop further than it has already done.

He turns 29 in July and there have been engagements with the club. Those talks have been inconclusive considering the issues that Chiefs have with their options upfront.

Tashreeq Morris, Khanyisa Mayo, and Etiosa Ighodaro all didn’t have good seasons through the 2025/26 campaign.

McCarthy gone to right league

Former Qarabag striker Dino Ndlovu says Aden McCarthy has made the right move to the Azerbaijan league following his move to Sabah FK from Kaizer Chiefs.

“Firstly, he’s gone to the right league despite what people think. Those leagues that side are improving. In Azerbaijan, they bring in players from Brazil and Portugal,” says Ndlovu, who was the first South African to play in Azerbaijan when he joined Qarabag in 2016.

“Look, to be honest, with Aden, I won’t say he made a wrong choice or he made a mistake in terms of a club. But I always believe that a big club will always be a big club,” Ndlovu continues.

“Big clubs are always rated about their achievements and if you look at it, we know that Qarabag wanted to sign him. I don’t know if you’re aware of that. Qarabag wanted to sign him and he went with Sabah,” reveals Ndlovu, who facilitated Pule Ekstein’s move to Sabah FK in 2019.

“Yeah, Qarabag wanted to sign Aden and he went with Sabah. Which is his vision, I don’t have any problem with it. I wish him all the best. I wish for him to succeed.”
