Kaizer Chiefs News Today: Amakhosi danger men exposed, Petersen fired up after missing first derby & more

Here is what is making headlines around Kaizer Chiefs in the last 24 hours, including danger men exposed, captain Brandon Petersen ready for action and more.

Here are Chiefs’ danger men!

Former Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi has pointed out Kaizer Chiefs’ danger men ahead of the upcoming Soweto Derby on Sunday.

I think they are not a one-man team, Kaizer Chiefs, they play as a team. The coach is making changes, and everyone who comes to the team wants to grab that position. But they have a good team,” he told iDiski Times.

“It’s just to get that winning combination. Yes, like in the past five games, he got those combinations and obviously changed here and there.

“But I don’t want to single out a player that this is the one, because for me, I think they are playing as a team. Look at [Glody] Lilepo he’s on form, [Mduduzi] Shabalala is on form, [Wandile] Duba came back, and we know what he can do.

“We saw even what happened after the Nedbank Cup final, even if people hate him for what he did to [Makhehleni] Makhaula and [Mbekezeli] Mbokazi. Sometimes it’s all about the emotions of the game.

“Players like [Flavio] Silva, who is scoring, you may see a different Silva in the derby. But I do think they have a good team, the only thing might be the understanding because of the changes.”

Chiefs aren’t depending on one man

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has opened up on having a headache in selection in attack ahead of the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates.

“I think it’s a good headache that we have,” said Ben Youssef.

“Sometimes if you have good players and you have to choose it’s better than not having any player and you have to find solutions. I think it’s a good headache.

“I think as a team if you check how many goals we have scored, it was Shabalala, Lilepo, Silva, Duba all the players are performing very well. We are not the kind of team that’s depending on one or two players if they are not there the team would struggle.

“So, it’s more about the team, it’s not about the person we play.”

No changed targets for Amakhosi

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has echoed sentiments recently expressed by Cedric Kaze, insisting that targets should remain unchanged regardless of circumstances, as Amakhosi prepare for a high-stakes Soweto Derby.

“Our target is clear from the first of the season; we don’t have to change our target. You win one game, you start discussing winning PSL, you lose one game, you start to destroy everything. The target is the same; we discussed that we have to be in the group stage in CAF. We did it, unfortunately, in the last moments; we did not qualify. It was about goal difference.

“We said that minimum, we have to be number three in the PSL, and we are there now. That’s the most important thing to think about when it comes to our performance. We don’t have to make it big or small, this game is a derby, it’s a big, very important game, a crucial game, but finally it’s three points.”

Petersen fired up for derby

Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen is embracing the opportunity to lead from the front when Amakhosi face Orlando Pirates in Sunday’s eagerly anticipated Soweto derby at FNB Stadium.

“Obviously, it was disappointing that I couldn’t be part of the first derby, and obviously the disappointing result as well,” Petersen said.

“This time around, I don’t think there’s added pressure. The stakes are high, obviously, but it’s an exciting game. Everyone is motivated – like the coach said earlier, the physio room is empty, and everyone wants to play.

“For me, it’s an opportunity for everyone to go out there, enjoy the occasion, and also show what you are capable of.”
