Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly eyeing striker Tshegofatso Mabasa who is currently on loan at Stellenbosch FC from Orlando Pirates.

Mabasa fell down the pecking order at Pirates under coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who has preferred Yanela Mbuthuma and Evidence Makgopa, forcing him to seek regular playing time at Stellies.

With his future at the club uncertain, Chiefs are positioning themselves to snap him up at the end of the season when his contract expires although Stellenbosch and AmaZulu are also reportedly interested.

Kaizer Chiefs co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef could still end up staying at the club despite reports saying the club will part ways with them at the end of the season.

Kaze and Ben Youssef have been in charge of the club since September 2025 when their boss Nasreddine Nabi left and endured mixed fortunes but they are in line to lead the club to third place and back into the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

As per The South African, Chiefs have not made a decision about their coaching situation and are instead focused on some leadership changes with a new CEO set to be appointed.

With Mamelodi Sundowns pulling away from Orlando Pirates in the title race, Kaizer Chiefs could well be the team that helps the Buccaneers’ quest for a first PSL crown in 14 years.

Sundowns’ 3-0 win over Polokwane City saw them open up a five-point lead over Pirates, who have a game in hand, and Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men must beat Stellenbosch FC on Tuesday to close it to two points.

After that, Pirates will be watching Sundowns and Chiefs’ match on Wednesday with a lot of interest as defeat for the Brazilians will allow them to go top if they win all their games while even a draw can see them assume league leadership on goal difference and go on to end their title drought.
