Kaizer Chiefs & Orlando Pirates tussling over PSL striker

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are reportedly pursuing a striker who currently plays for a rival PSL club.

The Soweto giants are in the market for further attacking reinforcements with a striker a priority for either side and according to Soccer Laduma, Richards Bay forward Yanela Mbuthuma is the player they are both interested in signing.

Pirates want to add firepower to their attack ahead of next season when they will compete in four competitions again while Chiefs will also add continental football with a place in the CAF Confederation Cup close to being secured.

That will therefore necessitate a new forward and Mbuthuma, who has scored four goals, is seen as the man that can do the job for both.

Who is leading the race for Mbuthuma?

“There are several players that the club [Pirates] is looking at for next season but the first priority is the striking department and it's believed that they have identified Richards Bay United's Yanela Mbuthuma and the club is set to table an offer for him,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

“At the moment, I am not sure of how much they are offering but they are willing to sign him and that's why they are tabling that offer. But you know Chiefs are also apparently interested in the same player and that's why Pirates are ready to table the offer and have an advantage over their rivals,” the source added.

Chiefs have also been reported to be monitoring Kruger United forward Thapelo Matlhoko with the possibility of signing him and it remains to be seen which side will convince Richards Bay to sell Mbuthuma if indeed the interest is concrete.
