Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that Gaston Sirino will be back to training after two weeks after picking up an injury during their 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Sirino has started life at Chiefs in impressive fashion, after scoring one goal while providing two assists, and coach Nasreddine Nabi will be thankful that his injury has happened just before a long international break.
While providing an update on the status of Sirino, George Matlou, Tebogo Potsane, Edmilson Dove and Brandon Petersen, Chiefs physio Dave Milner explained when he expects each of them to be back.
When is Sirino expected back?
“Gaston Sirino sustained an abductor muscle injury in the last match and he is improving nicely and we expect him to be back in full training within two weeks,” he said.
Milner then elaborated on the state of some of the longer-term casualties.
“Another player progressing well is George Matlou. He has started running and doing some ball work and we are looking at a November return for him,” added Milner.
Meanwhile, Milner also weighed in on the situation of winger Tebogo Potsane, who twisted an ankle three weeks ago.
“He went for a scan which showed some ligament damage, so we expect him to be out for around three weeks,” he said.
Who are the long-term absentees?
Defender Edmilson Dove is, however, still far from coming back, after suffering an injury in pre-season, and so is goalkeeper Brandon Petersen.
“Edmilson Dove is out of the protective boot and is doing some preliminary walking. We are confident he will be able to start running in November,” said Milner, adding: “Brandon had the pins removed from his finger and can start full training immediately.”
Chiefs, who have won two and lost one of their three league matches, will be back to PSL action on October 26 when they face SuperSport United.
