Kaizer Chiefs recruitment heads make strategic decision ahead of January transfers

In a bid to strengthen their transfer activities amid criticism over being behind rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs have decided to learn from the best.

This is after the club confirmed that its recruitment chiefs will attend the TransferRoom Summit in Rabat, Morocco from Monday December 22.

The TR LIVE Summit will see over 120 influential decision-makers from leading clubs such as Premier League champions Liverpool, academies and agencies worldwide attend, helping clubs broaden their networks when it comes to transfers while learning how to become shrewd in the market.

It is a summit that has benefited clubs like Sundowns with the club’s Sporting Director Flemming Berg a regular attendee and it is from such meetings where deals for players from overseas clubs are believed to have been orchestrated.

Now, Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr and Head of Recruitment and Scouting Thembela Maliwa have confirmed that they will attend in what will be a first for the Soweto giants.

“Football is a business of information and you need as much access as you can,” Maliwa wrote on LinkedIn.

“I’m thrilled that I will be attending TransferRoom for the first time in Rabat, Morocco, together with our Sport Director, Mr Kaizer Motaung Jr. It will also be the first time that our club Kaizer Chiefs Football Club attend this platform.

“We as a club are looking to re-strengthen our position in the global transfer market and relations, so the TransferRoom Summit in Rabat is perfect for us to get in touch with a lot of football people, clubs and agents.”

Chiefs are expected to be busy in the transfer market yet again in January as they look to strengthen key areas for a better second half of the season and hope to build good contacts and networks from the TransferRoom Summit.
