Tensions between Kaizer Chiefs and a segment of their fanbase have escalated, with the club reporting protesting supporters to the police.
The demonstration, held at the team’s Naturena headquarters, was a response to a string of poor results, but the club has condemned the behaviour of some individuals involved.
The Soweto giants have been on a downward spiral, suffering four consecutive losses across all competitions.
These defeats led to their elimination from both the CAF Confederation Cup, Nedbank Cup and knocked them out of the PSL title race, fueling supporter frustration and prompting calls for the dismissal of coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.

Kaizer Chiefs fan protests met with club rebuke
A group of fans, led by Diakanya Makgato, staged a protest to deliver a memorandum of their grievances to club officials. While the club acknowledged the fans’ right to express their dissatisfaction, it strongly criticised the conduct of the demonstration.
Vina Maphosa, the club’s Corporate Communications Manager, addressed the incident, stating that some protesters were disorderly and intoxicated.
“While we respect the rights of the fans to voice their concerns, we strongly condemn the actions that followed the protest organized by Makgato,” Maphosa said, as quoted by KickOff. “Some of those who accompanied him were intoxicated, which posed a danger and created chaos.”

The club also took issue with threats allegedly made by the protest leader in subsequent media interviews.
Amakhosi accuse protest leader of misinformation
“Threats of violence and ultimatums directed at the club through various interviews conducted by Makgato after the protest are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” Maphosa added.
Kaizer Chiefs further accused Makgato of misrepresenting the protest’s demands and spreading falsehoods that were not included in the official memorandum submitted to the club.

“We note with concern that certain untruths have been spread by Makgato, which are not contained in the document that he and his compatriots handed to our representatives,” Maphosa stated. “What Makgato gave interviews on is not what he presented to us, and that makes him a character who plays to the gallery and wants to go viral.”
The club urged supporters to engage in constructive dialogue rather than resorting to “misinformation and destruction.”
Chiefs are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, March 15 against Durban City.
