Kaizer Chiefs star likened with Lucas Ribeiro

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger and football analyst Junior Khanye has praised Amakhosi star Gaston Sirino following his match-winning performance against Richards Bay. 

Khanye likened the attacking midfielder to Lucas Ribeiro, calling him “special” after Sirino scored the only goal of the game.

The Uruguayan star was introduced in the second half and scored a sensational goal from outside the box, securing Chiefs' third consecutive league victory this season. 

With this result, the team remains one of only two sides with a perfect record, sitting in second place on the league table with nine points, just behind Sekhukhune United on goal difference.

Khanye complimented the goal and maintained that Sirino is a “special player.” However, he suggested that Sirino's true quality can sometimes be masked by the performance of the players around him.

“That was a world-class goal,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“We need to complement that goal; the Chiefs that I know scores like this, and you need star players.

“Sirino is a star, but I don’t think his mind-set is the right one and another thing could be playing with players who are not at your standard you end up looking ordinary because Sirino is a special player. One of the best international players imported to South Africa.

“Sirino, like [Lucas] Ribeiro, is on another level but also playing for a team that doesn’t challenge for trophies and in the league always out of the picture and sometimes even out of the top 8, you are obviously going to be an ordinary player. 

“Sirino is a special player I mean look at the goal he scored and last season he scored a similar goal.”
