Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed their next opponents for the annual Toyota Cup which will serve as their curtain-raiser for the new season.
Chiefs are set to embark on a two-week pre-season tour of the Netherlands where they have lined up five matches against Eredivisie sides as well as Dutch second-tier clubs.
After their European tour, Chiefs will return home for a match against Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, who will be their Toyota Cup opponents this year.
The match, which will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, will take place on July 26 in what will be part of their preparations for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Jessica Motaung lauds Ghana giants
Chiefs and Kotoko both qualified for the Confederation Cup, Amakhosi sealing a return to continental football after winning the Nedbank Cup, while the 25-time Ghana champions qualified after winning the Ghana Cup.
“I’m proud and privileged to announce that we will play Asante Kotoko from Ghana – a team that we played in the Vodacom Challenge many years ago. We’ve even had some players from them before,” said Chiefs’ marketing and commercial director Jessica Motaung.

“It’s a tournament that showcases African talent, African brands and celebrates African football. We’re excited to play Asante, because we’re two teams who are playing in the Confed Cup, hopefully we will not meet each other too soon.”
Chiefs are in a race against time to bring in new signings before they depart to the Netherlands on July 4 with coach Nasreddine Nabi looking to have all his squad when pre-season begins.
