Kaizer Chiefs Transfer News: Amakhosi to consider Brayan Leon’s compatriot?

Kaizer Chiefs might consider going to South America for reinforcement ahead of the 2026 Premier Soccer League campaign.

In the January transfer window, Mamelodi Sundowns signed Brayan Leon from Colombian outfit. The striker has since responded with 15 goals in 24 games for the Brazilians across all competitions, inspiring the club to reach the CAF Champions League final.

The Glamour Boys ventured into the South American market in 2023, but the acquisition of Jasond Gonzalez did not bear fruit as the towering striker failed to deliver for the Soweto giants.

Chiefs’ Head of Scouting Thembela Maliwa has now explained why he is interested in the Colombian market. This is a major hint that the team might consider having a player from there in the wake of Leon’s success in Mzansi with Masandawana.

“Insight, for the past eight years, I’ve been travelling around South America for scouting. But in the last three years, I have been so obsessed with the Colombian market,” Maliwa said as reported by Soccer Laduma.

“To add to that, Colombian players have been moving to big leagues around the world. In 2024, players like Kevin Viveros (striker) caught my eye while he was playing for Atlético Nacional. For me, he is one of the deadliest strikers.

“He has just moved to Serie A in Brazil for Club Athletico Paranaense. He can play in any big league around the world. I’m in love with the Colombian market,” he concluded.

Etiosa Ighodaro Kaizer Chiefs

It is interesting to see whether the club will consider strengthening the attacking department considering the fact that Etiosa Ighodaro – who came in the start of the season, didn’t get enough time to underline his worth owing to injuries.
