Kaizer Chiefs Transfer News: Massive Sipho Mbule boost for Amakhosi

Kaizer Chiefs will get midfielder Sipho Mbule for free if they decide to renew their interest in the versatile Bafana Bafana international.

The Soweto giants were heavily linked with the 28-year-old after his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2024/25 season – after spending the campaign at Sekhukhune United before his unceremonious exit, but eventually joined rivals Orlando Pirates.

Initially, Mbule was regarded as one of coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s key men, but he was eventually pushed down the pecking order owing to stiff competition especially in midfield.

Having joined the Sea Robbers for an initia one-year contract, the talented midfielder hoped he will convince Bucs to extend his stay. However, it has not been the case.

Chiefs to re-ignite interest?

Mbule’s exploits helped Pirates to win the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout, but after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Bafana Bafana, he failed to command a regular starting berth. He ended up making 23 appearances with just one goal in return despite playing in an advanced position.

Amakhosi are expected to make changes in the squad to improve their chances of winning silverware next season, and Mbule’s experience will definitely be of massive help. Nevertheless, reports have it that Siwelele are closely monitoring the situation with the intention of signing him.

Mbule’s agent Mike Makaab had initially explained why they couldn’t force Pirates to extend Mbule’s stay.

“You have a look at what Orlando Pirates have achieved this season, the league and two cups. They play a certain type of football. It’s up to the coach to decide whether player fits into that type of football or not and a lot of sinister comments have been made around Mbule for a couple of months,” he told iDiski Times.

“In a very simple form, one has to respect the technical stuff’s decisions. They have done incredibly well at Pirates, they have a right to decide who they believe who must play to achieve what they want. That’s something we need to respect.”
