Kaizer Chiefs Transfer News: Amakhosi’s Mabasa boost?

Former Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs and Pyramids of Egypt.

The experienced forward is currently a free agent after parting ways with the Premier Soccer League champions at the end of the 2025/25 season. As a matter of fact, he spent the last six months on loan at Stelelnbosch before the Soweto giants opted against extending his stay.

Initially, the majority of the football stakeholders in the country expected the 29-year-old to stay with the Gavin Hunt-led outfit, but that was not the case.

While with the Buccaneers, Mabasa scored 50 goals, just eight fewer than the club’s all-time top scorer, Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi. In the second half of the season, he managed to score four goals in 14 games he played for Stellenbosch.

Why Chiefs have a chance to sign Mabasa

Rulani Mokwena was recently appointed as Pyramids head coach, further fuelling speculation about Mabasa joining him. But the striker’s agent, Gary Cassica, has explained why that might not happen.

“Look for Tshegofatso Mabasa; nothing formal, just interest, you know. The problem is that in Egypt, clubs only have no more than six foreigners, and at the moment they [ Pyramids]have filled their foreign quota,” Cassica said as quoted by FARPost.

“And they are going on a pre-season, so that means they will only be back in Egypt around August, which might be a bit too long for Mabasa to wait for them to decide; he needs to get back to playing football.”

Chiefs concluded the signing of Mayo on a permanent basis which is massive considering Etiosa Ighodaro and Flavio Da Silva is available as well. However, Mayo and Ighodaro have had fitness issues due to injuries, underlining why Mabasa will be valuable if Amakhosi sign him.
