Kaizer Chiefs vs AmaZulu: Preview, team news, where to watch and predicted lineup

Kaizer Chiefs will be aiming at third spot when they host AmaZulu as they return to PSL action on Wednesday evening.

Chiefs snapped their three-game winless run following a post-match penalty win over Angolan club Kabuscorp in the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round on Saturday, following a 1-1 score on aggregate.

The Glamour Boys won the second leg 1-0 but with the first leg ending in favour of the Angolans by the same score line, they needed shootouts to go through to the next round.

It means Chiefs will head into the match against Usuthu in high spirits as they look to turn around their league form after losing 3-1 to Sekhukhune United before a 1-1 draw with Marumo Gallants that leaves them fifth on the log with 14 points from seven matches.

Chiefs had started the season like a house on fire when they won four of their first five matches, without conceding a goal, before Sekhukhune brought them back to earth and since then, there had been back-to-back losses and a draw before their win over Kabuscorp last weekend.

They can move to third spot with 17 points from eight matches with a win on Wednesday which will be four behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played two games more.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu have won just three of their eight games in all competitions so far, but all the victories have been in the league, which leaves them in ninth position with 11 points and can move level with Chiefs if they secure a win at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

However, Arthur Zwane’s team are coming from a deflating 3-1 loss to TS Galaxy and Chiefs will want to take advantage of that.

Kaizer Chiefs vs AmaZulu Head-to-head record

This has been a tough match for Chiefs to win in recent years as in the last 10 meetings in all competitions, there have been six draws, with two wins a piece for the Glamour Boys and Usuthu.

Chiefs, however, had the edge last season, winning 3-1 in September 2024, before a 2-2 draw in February this year, with AmaZulu’s last win over the Soweto giants being in October 2023 when they secured a 1-0 win in the Telkom Knockout.

Kaizer Chiefs vs AmaZulu Team news

Chiefs will welcome back new signing Khanyisa Mayo, who missed last weekend’s Confederation Cup game due to late registration, and he is refreshed and ready to go after he made a dream debut by scoring against Gallants last week.

Defenders Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako face late fitness tests after missing last weekend’s matches, same as midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu, while new signing Ethan Chislett could make his debut for Chiefs.

Long-term injury absentees Given Msimango and Rushwin Dortley are still not ready and so is new signing Etiosa Ighodaro, who is projected to be fit after the next international break.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu will be without influential midfielder Siyanda Hlangabeza, who is suspended, while Elmo Kambindu is yet to feature this season because of an injury.

What has been said ahead of the clash?

“Every team brings their best when they play Kaizer Chiefs. It's not going to be easy. Even though they lost their last game, AmaZulu will want to bounce back against us. Everyone wants to beat Chiefs, so we need to be ready.” – Kaizer Chiefs forward Wandile Duba

“From training you can tell the guys are ready to fix the mistakes we made. Our objective is to win our first game away and it’s very important going to FNB. As much as it won’t be easy, the club has done it before so why not?” AmaZulu defender Sandile Mthethwa
