Kaizer Chiefs vs Marumo Gallants: Preview, team news, time and where to watch

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs face the first test of their character this season as they take on Marumo Gallants on Wednesday looking to bounce back from back-to-back defeats.

Chiefs lost 3-1 to Sekhukhune United last week and any hopes of a return to winning ways went up in smoke when they were beaten 1-0 by Angolan side Kabuscorp in the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round first leg on Saturday.

That has left Chiefs in a spot of bother ahead of their match with Gallants with this being the second game in which they will play without head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who is on his way out of the club.

Chiefs need a return to winning ways to return the confidence that had been running among players and fans after five games without defeat as a third loss would bring back fears of another season of struggle.

How have Chiefs and Gallants fared in recent matches?

Kaizer Chiefs had won four and drawn one of their opening five matches, not conceding in that period, before the defeat to Sekhukhune, but Banina Noko exposed some of their weaknesses especially their struggles with long balls.

They have now let in four goals in two matches, which should give Gallants hope with the latter having recorded three straight 1-1 draws, one of them against Mamelodi Sundowns last week.

Gallants have been hard to crack for the big teams this term as Sundowns found out while they already handed Orlando Pirates a 2-1 defeat which is a warning to the Glamour Boys.

Chiefs and Gallants head-to-head record

Chiefs and Gallants have played out evenly contested matches with the Soweto giants winning three of their eight meetings with two victories for Gallants and three draws.

Last season, Chiefs won the first leg 2-1 in September 2024 but Gallants returned the favour in April this year, winning by the same margin, which makes it a tricky game for Amakhosi.
