Best way to beat Chiefs? Nabi reveals key flaw that led to Sekhukhune ‘accident’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has opened up about one weakness that his team still has which contributed to their defeat to Sekhukhune United.

Chiefs were beaten 3-1 by Sekhukhune at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday as their run without defeat came to a stop thanks to Bradley Grobler’s two goals and an assist and it was the manner in which they were beaten that left fans worried.

The Glamour Boys struggled to deal with Grobler, who was a menace in the air and on the ground, with his movement in and around the box hard to deal with for Chiefs’ defenders Aden McCarthy and Miguel Inacio.

McCarthy and Inacio were constantly dragged out of position and sometimes stretched as they tried to mark Grobler who benefited from many long balls in the Chiefs’ box and Nabi admits defending such high balls is not one of their strengths.

“Regarding the long balls, the first goal was two players going for the same ball, and after the flick, there was no cover,” said Nabi as quoted by FARPost.

“For the second goal, we had the ball but gave it away in a very critical area. The third goal was also a long ball and a flick.

“We have to acknowledge the intelligence of Grobler, but we believe these are mistakes we could have avoided because we knew we were going to play against a team that uses a lot of long balls on him.

“When you play against such teams, there are two ways to deal with that: either you press them very high and not let them make those long balls, or you let them make those long balls and drop your defensive block to play for the second and third ball. We were not good at those things,” added Nabi.

Nabi’s revelation will perhaps give rival teams a clue over how to beat the Soweto giants as they seem to struggle against long balls and lanky strikers who are physical.
