Kaizer Chiefs are working hard behind the curtains to have their legendary goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune back in the fold.
The 37-year-old wanted to continue playing past his 40's but the Glamour Boys refused to grant him a chance since they wanted to rebuild. Amakhosi had finished 10th in the 2023/23 Premier soccer League edition, and coach Nasreddine Nabi felt Khune couldn't help much as a player.
Amakhosi wanted to have the legendary custodian in the marketing department, but he refused to take the offer. He has since been serving as an ambassador and partner to a betting company TopBet, while serving as a pundit as well.
However, Chiefs are still keen on having the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper on board.
‘Khune has a lot to offer Chiefs’

“Yes, the club still wants to work with Itu [Khune]. They feel that he still has a lot to offer outside the playing field and that's why the talks never stopped,” SNL24 reported.
“The club understands that he has other responsibilities in his life but they are looking at a possible way of formulating a conducive working partnership which will suit both parties and that's why they are still talking to him regarding that position in the marketing and commercial department with Jessica.
“For now it could be for the marketing and commercial department but they also want him to do his coaching badges and impact his knowledge to the young and upcoming goalkeepers. The club believes he still has a lot to contribute to the team in terms of teaching the young goalkeepers the ropes as he has been there and done almost everything for the team. So, no matter which department works for him, the club still wants him back.”
It is interesting to see whether Khune will eventually get back to Chiefs and help them in marketing.
