Khune rates new Kaizer Chiefs signings

Kaizer Chiefs have signed six players ahead of the new Premier Soccer League that is set to start in August.

Flavio Silva (Persebaya Surabaya, Indonesia), Ethan Chislett (Port Vale, England), Nkanyiso Shinga (FC Alverce, Portugal), Paseka Mako (Orlando Pirates), Thabiso Monyane (Orlando Pirates), and Siphesihle Ndlovu (SuperSport United).

Most of the above players made their debut in the pre-season, apart from Paseka Mako, who was nursing an injury. Ndlovu was part of the Amakhosi team that played against Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup, a match the Ghanaian outfit won 3-2 in the penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regulation time.

‘I was quite impressed'

When you talk about Paseka Mako and when you talk about Thabiso Monyane, they are bringing that winning mentality from Orlando Pirates. And I was quite impressed with the like of Shinga, Chislett, and of course, we need to give Silva a fair turn,” Khune told SABC1.

“We only just debate him in the first games that we’ve seen him play, but he’s definitely going to show us what he can bring to South African football.”

Meanwhile, coach Nasreddine Nabi insists the pre-season met the objective despite just one win, a draw and four losses in regulation time.

Nasreddine Nabi

“We are in pre-season, and the objectives of the pre-season are detailed and predetermined for everyone that knows our team. For example, in Holland we play four games with teams from Eredivisie, the first division, and one game against a team from second division, which is a big team but has administration problems.

“The object of these games is not for result after 90 minutes. I already explained it to you [media], I know you are smart, but you want this question, you’re assisted by your colleague from Ghana, who asked me if it’s normal to lose in pre-season – I’m not sure if it interests the people in Ghana that in pre-season I lose.”
