Zitha Kwinika provides success formula for Kaizer Chiefs next season

Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika has urged his teammates to finish the season with a strong performance, despite having already secured a third-place finish in the PSL.

The Soweto giants began the season promisingly but experienced a mid-season slump that saw them fall short in cup competitions. However, Amakhosi found their form again in the final stretch, earning a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

This campaign marks a significant improvement for the club, which has been under pressure to rebuild and return to its former glory. The team’s current points total already surpasses their recent efforts, reflecting positive progress.

In the last two seasons, the Glamour Boys concluded with 32 and 36 points, respectively. Their best recent performance was in the 2019/20 season, when they amassed 57 points but narrowly lost the league title on the final day.

Under the leadership of co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, Chiefs have accumulated 54 points. A victory in their final match against Chippa United on Saturday would see them equal their impressive 2019/20 points tally.

Kwinika, a senior figure in the squad, believes the team must now focus on establishing higher standards for the upcoming season as they aim to compete for major honours.

“One wise man once said, ‘It’s not how you start that matters, but how you finish’,” the 32-year-old defender stated as per KickOff. “A wiser one said, ‘A good start, consistency in between will lead to a great finish’.”

“Last hurdle, mates,” he added. “Let’s finish strong and set better standards for the one coming.”

Kwinika will, however, not play a part in the final match as he is still out with an injury that has sidelined him since March.
