Bafana Bafana forward Lebo Mothiba has expressed his desire to play for Mamelodi Sundowns when he decides to return to South Africa in future.
Mothiba is currently a free agent after leaving French side Strasbourg SC and as he searches for a new club, he still has eyes on what is happening at home where he would like to go back to when he is done with playing overseas.
The striker played at Sundowns during the formative years before moving to France where he developed his skills further at Lille.
He has, however, not lost touch with his roots and admits he follows Sundowns, where some of his friends are also playing, and would jump at an opportunity to play for the team in future.
Should Sundowns lure Mothiba?
“Before I retire, I want to come and play back home,” Mothiba told FARPost. “In the future, I’d love to come and play for two or three years in South Africa. I’ve spoken to my agent, and everyone agrees. That’s what I’ll do.
“You know my team there in South Africa, where my development took place, that’s Sundowns. I watch almost every game they play because most of my close friends are at Sundowns.”
Sundowns still holds a special place in Mothiba’s heart and he has a number of friends at the club some whom he rates so highly.
Bafana ace sings Mshishi’s praises
“My other friend left [Orlando] Pirates, and he’s now there at Sundowns. I’m so close to most of them – Grant Kekana, Teboho [Mokoena] and the legend himself – the great Shikabala. Themba Zwane. That one knows football,” he added.
“He’s very slow. But he’s two steps ahead of everyone before he receives the ball. Sometimes watching him go through my teammates in training, I’m there angry. I just want to go there, push him, and tackle him,” he added jokingly. “Mshishi is so good. For me, he’s Mzansi’s legend.”
