Lebone Seema’s screamer hands Orlando Pirates second PSL win

Published on by

Orlando Pirates won their second PSL game of the season following a 1-0 victory over Orbit College on Tuesday.

Lebone Seema scored a stunning goal to settle the tie just after the break, hammering home on the half-volley, after receiving the ball on the edge of the box.

Pirates came into the match high on confidence after their MTN8 semi-final second leg win against Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend but found the going tough early on. The Buccaneers were missing the injured Relebohile Mofokeng while Orbit College did not have Monnapule Saleng, who could not play against his parent club.

The Buccaneers were surprised by a brave Orbit College who ran rings around them in the early exchanges and should have gone ahead when Siyabulela Mabele nearly caught Sipho Chaine off his line.

Pirates break deadlock in fine fashion

Kamogelo Sebelebele, who has scored in the last three matches, was lively for Pirates as he created a number of chances and also found himself in dangerous areas but his final ball let him down.

His movement in and around the box created problems for the visitors at Orlando Stadium but both sides could not find a breakthrough in the first half. After the break, it took Pirates until the 57th minute to break the deadlock and it arrived in a special way.

Pirates had been on attack with the ball reaching the box but a return pass from Sebelebele was met by Seema who controlled it before firing home an unstoppable shot past Orbit College goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane.

Back-to-back wins for Buccaneers

Substitute Tshepang Moremi had a chance for Pirates soon after when he hot a good chance on the box but his shot went out, while there was a chance for the hosts to add onto their tally late on.

Sebelebele took a shot which was punched by the keeper but on the rebound, Tshegofatso Mabasa’s shot hit a defender’s hand but his penalty appeals were ignored by the referee who gave a corner instead.

Just as the game was headed to the finish, there was a heart in mouth moment for Pirates fans when Seema gave the ball away but a hesitation from the Orbit forwards saved the day as the defender closed in and cleared the danger.

Victory now sees Pirates make it back-to-back league wins after starting with two straight losses and they can now look forward to a run of wins with Chippa United their next opponent.
