The Urban Warriors are reluctant to let the youngster leave for the Soweto giants who are desperate to have him.
For the last couple of weeks, Kaizer Chiefs have been chasing the services of South Africa international and Cape Town Spurs winger Asanele Velebayi.
The Glamour Boys confirmed they will be bringing in more new faces to the team before the transfer window closes in September. So far, they have signed goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy, Bongani Sam who was at Orlando Pirates, Bafana Bafana international Rushwin Dortley from Spurs, while the most recent is former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gaston Sirino.
On Wednesday, Afrik Foot confirmed the Nasreddine Nabi-led team has presented an official offer for Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele.
Velebayi Parents now want to meet Spurs management
Chiefs made an official bid to the relegated outfit about their intention to sign the 21-year-old winger who has already agreed personal terms with the Soweto giants.
However, his current team is playing hardball on the Glamour Boys who are desperate to have the attacker. The whole scenario has now taken a different twist.
“Asanele Velebayi’s parents have requested a meeting with Cape Town Spurs in an effort to force the player’s move to Kaizer Chiefs before the window closes,” SABC Sport reported.
“With an initial bid sent by Chiefs this week and surprisingly turned down by Spurs, the player’s family have stepped in and are hopeful Spurs can allow Valebayi to make his dream move to The Glamour Boys.
“It’s further understood that Velebayi has taken this route out of frustration after Chiefs followed up their interest by formally sending through a bid they believed would match Spurs’ valuation of a player that only made his topflight debut last season.
“It’s understood Dortley’s parents also had to get involved to force the move after Spurs were haggling with Amakhosi over the fee.”
Last season, Velebayi played 23 Premier Soccer League games for Spurs and managed to get a goal and an assist. He further played all three games for South Africa in the 2024 Cosafa Cup.
