Lucas Radebe, an icon affectionately known as ‘The Chief’, is officially back in the fold at Leeds United, having been unveiled as the club’s newest official ambassador.
The presentation was the highlight of the half-time break at Elland Road during Saturday’s Premier League tie against Bournemouth. Though the game was exciting—with the score tied at 1-1 after Joe Rodon quickly cancelled out the visitors’ opener—Radebe’s appearance was met with widespread applause from the loyal supporters.
The former South African international spent a decade at Leeds, joining in 1994 from Kaizer Chiefs and going on to make 256 appearances. His leadership qualities saw him don the captain’s armband for several years, ensuring his legendary status among the fan base.
Now 56, his new, formal role means fans will be seeing significantly more of him. Radebe will be tasked with acting as a club representative at matchdays, spearheading various community visits, and attending official club events.
He joins fellow former player Stuart Dallas in this ambassadorial position, strengthening the link between the club's rich history and its present operations.
RADEBE RETURNS TO LEEDS AS AMBASSADOR
“Lucas is a focal point for award-winning educational schemes and anti-racism campaigns, and his dedication to supporting the Leeds community on numerous important topics has been astounding, demonstrated through the many awards he has received,”
“It is an honour to welcome Lucas back to the club, with the official announcement made at half-time of the club’s Premier League fixture with AFC Bournemouth, where he was introduced to the pitch and we look forward to the future.”
