Lyle Foster faces bleak future as Burnley provide transfer update

Burnley manager Nicky Hayen has confirmed that South African striker Lyle Foster could be sold before the transfer window closes, as the club looks to reshape its squad following a difficult start to the season.

The Clarets have had a challenging return to the EFL Championship, failing to win either of their first two matches in the 2026/27 campaign. The team started with a 2-2 draw against West Ham United and followed it up with a 3-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

According to the Burnley Express, the Lancashire club is considering offloading several players to reduce its wage bill and make room for new signings before the September 1 deadline.

Foster, alongside teammates Hjalmar Ekdal and Andreas Hountondji, was notably absent from the matchday squad for the defeat against West Brom. This omission has fuelled speculation about their futures at Turf Moor.

When questioned about the potential departure of the trio, Hayen acknowledged it was a real possibility. “That’s a possibility,” he told the Burnley Express. “As I mentioned last week, when new players come in, we also have to make decisions on who will be going out. With these players, that’s something we need to discuss.”

Hayen also stressed the need for more attacking firepower and highlighted the adjustment period for new arrivals.

“We knew, even from last season, that we need more of a goal threat,” he explained. “Another thing is that the new players who come in also have to adapt to the level. They have to get used to the intensity, and then they have to increase their own.”
