The Sundowns No. 4, valued at €2.80m on Transfermarkt, is the subject of fresh speculation, though the rumoured switch is still at an early stage with no agreement in place.

Mokoena is contracted to Sundowns until 2029 and any sale would only be sanctioned if a big-money offer arrives but so far, it is still early days.

Born in Bethlehem in Free State, Mokoena has developed into one of the PSL’s most accomplished holding midfielders and had an impressive show on Thursday as he scored the equalizer for Bafana Bafana against Czech Republic at the World Cup.

Teboho Mokoena says he was determined to make an impact against Czechia after learning that his yellow card would rule him out of Bafana Bafana’s final Group A match against South Korea.

The midfielder found the back of the net via the penalty spot in Thursday night’s 1-1 FIFA World Cup draw at Atlanta Stadium, keeping Bafana’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.

Mokoena was cautioned during the first half and will now miss the decisive clash in Monterrey due to suspension.

“I think I play better with a yellow card because I’m very aggressive and I never pull out of a challenge, so when I’m on a yellow card maybe I’m a little bit more cautious. Being at a World Cup is amazing and I know everyone back home in Bethlehem is cheering for me. I’m just living my dream,” he told SABC.
