Latest on Mamelodi Sundowns, in the last 24 hours, including Lebo Mothiba’s future, Marcelo Allende to reap big, Peter Shalulile on Masandawana exit and more.

Mothiba’s contract to be renewed?

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly looking to extend Lebohang Mothiba’s stay at the club after offering the experienced striker a new one-year contract.

“Sundowns have decided to keep faith in Mothiba despite the recent departure of long-serving striker Peter Shalulile,” Soccer Laduma reported.

“Everyone is asking why they let go of Peter Shalulile and not Lebo (Mothiba). So, these are tough decisions for any club to deal with.

“You know how it is at Chloorkop. Experienced players like Themba Zwane are likely to be given one-year contract renewals. It is very unlikely for them to get anything longer than that,” they added.

Mothiba joined Masandawana last season after spending several months without a club. Before completing his move to Chloorkop, the 30-year-old had also been linked with Kaizer Chiefs.

The former Strasbourg and Lille striker made 11 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 season, contributing one goal and one assist in the Betway Premiership.

Allende set to reap big

Marcelo Allende is in line to reap the benefits of what he has delivered at Mamelodi Sundowns as he enters the fifth year of his contract at the club.

Not often have South Americans exhausted the full length of their contract including options at Sundowns from when the club signed Vincente Principiano and Rafael Dudamel over two decades ago.

Since arriving on big money from Uruguayan club Montevideo City Torque, the Chilean has averaged 44 games per season giving Sundowns full value for money.

Allende signed a five-year deal which had an initial three years topped up with a two-year option. The latest, according to KickOff, is that there will now be a fresh deal prepared for the 27-year-old which will take him to his 30th birthday.

He will become eligible for permanent residence at the end of this season placing him on the path to playing as a non-foreigner from the 2027/28 season.

Why Shalulile asked to leave Downs

Two-time PSL Footballer of the Season Peter Shalulile has opened up on his exit from CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns.

Speaking to the club’s media, Shalulile revealed that his decision to request an exit was simply the desire to showcase his talent somewhere else, after an incredibly successful relationship with Sundowns.

“It was all about the hard work. There was a time where injuries came but more important where there was no goals, when it was dry. It was the time where I needed to dig deep within myself,” the striker said.

“Regardless of not scoring, I could still come to the gym, my finishing drills. I decided when I spoke to my agent that the best thing for me to do is to ask the club, the president, to give me an opportunity to showcase my talent somewhere else.

“Thank you to the supporters, they have been amazing people, they kept on singing, giving us energy. Without them, it’s tough on the pitch.

“I’d like to thank the chairman for everything, since he took over, and he’s been an amazing person. I salute them for bringing me here, even the previous people who left, I’d love to thank them from the bottom of my heart.”
