Massive financial boost for Chiefs, Pirates, Sundowns & Stellies!

South Africa's Premier Soccer League will have four teams taking part in the Caf Inter-Club championship in the 2025/26 season.

Champions Mamelodi Sundowns and runners-up Orlando Pirates are set to play in the Caf Champions League. Nedbank Cup champions Kaizer Chiefs will be representing the country in the Caf Confederation Cup alongside Stellenbosch, who finished third in the PSL last season.

Ahead of the competition, the Confederation of African Football (Caf), has announced a major financial boost for the teams that will be taking part in the annual competition. Teams that will participate in the forthcoming edition will enjoy double the prize that clubs received in the previous campaign.

Motsepe - CAF to go hard on erring countries who maltreat opponents

“I am very happy with the processes underway to increase by 100% CAF's financial contributions to each of the approximately 130 clubs that participate in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup,” CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe said in a statement to the media.

It means clubs will now receive $100,000 (R1.7 million) as opposed to the $50,000 (R888,000) they were awarded in the 2024/25 edition.

“These financial resources will contribute enormously to the development and global competitiveness of African football and investment in Youth Football development and infrastructure.

“CAF is thankful to FIFA and President Gianni Infantino for organising an exciting and world-class competition that will contribute to the global competitiveness and growth of African Clubs and Football Clubs worldwide,” he concluded.

Last season, Pirates reached the semi-final of the CAF Champions League but were undone by eventual champions Pyramids, who beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the final. Stellenbosch made the last four in their Caf Confederation Cup debut.
