Khanyisa Mayo lauded for his resilience after scoring in Kaizer Chiefs win against Magesi

Khanyisa Mayo was on target on Wednesday night as Kaizer Chiefs completed a double over Magesi in the Premier Soccer League.

Goals from Flavio Silva, Wandile Duba, Mduduzi Shabalala, and the on-loan Bafana Bafana forward gave the Soweto giants a 4-1 victory at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. The lone strike for Dikwena Tsa Meetse came from Diteboho Mofokeng.

It was a sigh of relief for the CR Belouizdad forward, who came in on a one-year loan deal.

The 83rd-minute strike from a Reeve Frosler’s cross was all that the 27-year-old Mayo needed to score his second league goal this season. Amakhosi co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef was happy with the forward, who has endured a torrid time at the club owing to injuries.

“True, he’s been working hard a lot, he’s been unlucky with one or two injuries, then he’s back, he’s been performing very well in the training sessions, he’s been fighting,” he said in a presser.

“He’s been a little bit unlucky in the last few games that he didn’t score – but I think today is his second goal and he will help the team a lot.

“Certainly, he [Frosler] is back and made two assists so he is showed the importance for all the players in the squad.

“We have a big squad, big team and all of them they are ready to give us what we asked from them and all of them they’re ready to fight for the team, but the most important thing we’re not performing on one or two players, we’re a big squad and all of them can help,” Ben Youssef concluded.
