Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango is unfazed by the limited game time that he has had at the club this season, having fallen down the pecking order under coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Nabi has preferred a central defensive partnership of new signings Rushiwn Dortley and Miguel Inacio, leaving Msimango watching from the bench, although the defender has been called upon in their last three games.
The former TS Galaxy man does not see anything unusual with his situation, despite being one of the key players last season when he made 30 appearances, and remains confident of winning his place back.
Is Msimango worried over few minutes?
“For me, it’s just to stay professional [like] the professional that I am,” Msimango said as quoted by iDiski Times.
“To keep working hard, staying fit, eat healthy, sleep well, understand that football, you know, there are times, seasons or phases where you find a bit of setbacks from a personal level.
“I understand that season and that phase for myself. So, it is just to stay fit, stay ready and when the opportunity comes, I’ll do my best.”
Defender has had a rare run in the side
The 27-year-old has started the last three games for Chiefs against Magesi FC, Richards Bay and Royal AM and hopes that he has done his best to convince Nabi to hand him an extended stay in the side.
Chiefs’ defence has not been at its best this season with only one clean sheet in nine matches across all competitions and it appears there is still a chance for any of the central defenders to nail down a place.
Amakhosi face Polokwane City in their next match on Sunday December 8 when Msimango hopes to start his fourth straight game.
