The defending champions begin their quest for a record fourth consecutive MTN8 title at home to Polokwane City. Under new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, the Buccaneers are looking to maintain their dominance in the competition. Pirates boast a formidable record in the MTN8, having won four of the last five editions.

Polokwane City, who finished eighth in the league, are the underdogs but will be out to cause an upset. This is a massive test for Rise and Shine, who face a side brimming with experience and confidence.

Key Player to Watch: Mbekezeli Mbokazi (Orlando Pirates) – the 19-year-old defender has impressed in pre-season and could be a breakout star.

Sekhukhune United vs TS Galaxy

Venue: New Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane

Kick-off: 18:00

A fascinating clash between two sides hungry for a breakthrough. Sekhukhune are making their third consecutive MTN8 appearance, having fallen at the quarter-final stage in their previous two attempts. TS Galaxy, meanwhile, are back for their second appearance, hoping to go beyond the last eight after losing to Stellenbosch at this stage last year.

This fixture guarantees a first-ever semi-final appearance for one of these ambitious clubs.

Key Storyline: Can Sekhukhune finally break their quarter-final curse, or will Galaxy’s attacking flair shine through?

Last season’s runners-up Stellenbosch return with unfinished business. After falling to Pirates in the 2024 final, Stellies are determined to go one better. They face an AmaZulu side that has twice reached the final but never lifted the trophy.

Both teams are known for their structured play and tactical discipline, making this a potentially tight affair.

Key Matchup: Devin Titus (Stellenbosch) vs Abbubaker Mobara (AmaZulu) – a battle of youth and experience on the flanks.

Mamelodi Sundowns vs Richards Bay

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium, Atteridgeville

Kick-off: 18:00

Sundowns, one of the tournament’s former champions, face debutants Richards Bay in the final quarter-final of the weekend. The Brazilians are perennial contenders in every competition they enter and will be expected to progress.

For Richards Bay, this is a historic occasion—their first-ever MTN8 appearance. They will, however, need to be at their brilliant best to challenge a Sundowns side packed with depth and quality.

Key Factor: Experience vs Enthusiasm – can Richards Bay’s energy disrupt Sundowns’ rhythm?
