Nabi fires warning to Chiefs new signings as he vows to trim bloated squad

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has warned the newly-signed players against slackening thinking they have now arrived.

Chiefs have brought in 11 new players after signing Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Asanele Velebayi , Etiosa Ighodaro, Luke Baartman, Lebohang Maboe and most recently Khanyisa Mayo.

That has left Nabi with a bloated squad and he has not hidden his desire of offloading some in a bid to have some manageable numbers before the transfer window shuts on September 22.

“Yes, it's true that the squad is big and the technical staff and management through the sporting director Mr Kaizer Junior Jr, the club is working on options to try to offload the squad,” Nabi said as quoted by SABC.

“Especially to give the possibility to some players that didn't have the consistency or didn't have enough time to get more game time in other teams and as well to some young players to get the experience needed in the PSL in other clubs. Everyone is aware of that and working around the clock.”

With a squad of close to 40 players, Nabi says Chiefs will look to offload some permanently while others on loan so that they can get gametime given some of them have potential but do not show it consistently at the club.

“About the players that can go on loan or can stay, there is some situation that you feel that the player has potential when he's at Kaizer Chiefs but he doesn't have the consistency to play everyday, that's the thing that we want to address as well in those situations,” said the Chiefs coach.

The veteran Tunisian coach then addressed his squad, especially the new players, over the importance of maintaining high standards.

“Sometimes the player signs for Kaizer Chiefs and then he gets there and he's kind of relaxed that he has arrived,” he added.

“This is a big team, the results are a must and the players have to perform everyday and that's where we need the players to understand that there is no other way than to be consistent and work hard everyday and everything is gonna go by the performance and as well by the competitions between players if they are in the same position.”
