Nabi provides details of meeting with Chiefs boss Kaizer Motaung Sr

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has shared some details of his meeting with the club’s chairman Kaizer Motaung Sr regarding the plans for next season.

Nabi’s position is under scrutiny after an underwhelming first season at Chiefs which saw them miss out on the top eight for a second year running although they won a trophy.

Chiefs will be in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup after winning the Nedbank Cup which ended their 10-year trophy drought but their poor league form, where they won just eight of their 28 matches has left Nabi clinging onto his job.

Following the conclusion of the season, Chiefs are due to conduct a review of the campaign, which could see Nabi sacked but the tactician is confident about his position as he has already been making plans for next term.

“I think yesterday we had an exchange with the chairman, we know exactly what needs to be done in terms of players,” said Nabi as quoted by iDiski Times.

“I will not say how many or which players we need but the recruitment department is working very hard and knows the needs of the team and contact has already started. We hope that when we get what we need, we are sure the team will improve a lot.”

Nabi then went into details over what he needs to succeed at the club, saying that he already informed the club’s bosses about the areas that need reinforcements.

“The management know already, we’ve had a couple of meetings, they know what needs to be done and which areas need to improve,” he added.

“About the evaluation, obviously our league finish was not expected or what I feel we deserved, it’s not a good standing but on the other hand, it was a difficult season but we managed to win a cup – and I would not rate myself but I would rate this season, which I consider not to be a negative season due to winning a cup.

“We managed to get further in our process as now we know exactly what needs to be done, even if I admit I’m not happy with the finish in the league.”

Nabi was handed a two-year contract, with an option for another, when he was hired by Chiefs last July but his first campaign has not brought any improvements as a lack of consistency has seen them struggle to win matches and ended the season having failed to win any of their last nine PSL games.
