Nabi ready to support Broos – ‘I want to kill the bad points in SA’s DNA’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has promised to help Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to change the ‘showboating DNA' in Mzansi football.

Some Premier Soccer League players, like Mfundo Vilakazi of Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates' Patrick Maswanganyi, are known for their entertaining skill. While a section of fans enjoy the traditional style in South African games, others believe it should not be employed.

Hugo Broos has managed to help the National Team deliver consistently, and Nabi has promised to help him eliminate what he now feels is a vice in the country.

“I want to provide for DNA, for South African football, provide to mix it with the necessity of modern football. What I needed, and I profiled in this DNA,” the tactician stated.

“But also, this DNA is not all positive. Maybe it’s spectacular positive, but it’s not realistic, sometimes not efficient. My colleague, Mr. Hugo Broos, has worked very hard to change a little bit and congratulations for his work, for his passion.

“Remember, it’s not easy. Mister Hugo Broos, it’s not easy for him. In the first season with Bafana Bafana, you [media] are here, how many times did you criticise him hard? Now, I think you are very happy because of the football [the team plays],” Nabi continued.

“If you want to change you need to understand, and you need the passion, and you need respect. I know we need criticism, it’s normal, but I don’t talk positive criticism, but realistic criticism.”

“The criticism with an objective and you need to criticise the process and don’t criticise why this player is not playing. Why did you choose this one? It’s for football in 1998 or 75, it’s not for now, why does this one play and another not play? Criticise the game model, criticise the smart and I return to your question,” the former Young Africans SC coach added.

“Now, I want to profile [players] for the quality. I want to kill the bad points in DNA in South Africa, sometimes it’s too much show, and not efficient.

“This is a mentality change. You remember the game, Uganda against Bafana. After I think 1-0 or 2-0, the team was without concerns and started to show and lost the focus in the team.

“This is an example, you need to be more realistic, more focused. If you need to win four or five, you need to focus for 90 minutes 200%. It’s not you score one goal and to go and now show, ‘come on, guys, it’s not like that,'” he concluded.

Nabi will lead Kaizer Chiefs against Richards Bay in the Premier Soccer League on Wednesday at the FNB Stadium, hoping to end the four-match winless streak across all competitions.
