Neil Tovey talks leadership problem at Kaizer Chiefs

Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend Neil Tovey has addressed the leadership challenges that Amakhosi have faced in both the current and previous seasons.

Tovey reflected on his tenure as captain of the Soweto club, noting that he maintained a strict approach, even addressing underperforming players directly.

He acknowledged that Chiefs have had leaders since his departure, but he believes there's been a decline in the overall leadership within the team compared to the past.

NEIL TOVEY ON HOW HE USED TO LEAD CHIEFS

“You need players, even at training when you're not pulling your socks, [the late] Thabang Lebeses, Thabo Mooki, they knew if they didn't lift their game at training I would be on top of them immediately,” Tovey said on SoccerBeat YouTube Channel.

“I would have a go at them, right from the training field, not just when it gets to the game performance!

“The leadership, I think yes they've had leaders but I don't know if they had that many like we've had in the past, who would really be on top of you if don't perform and didn't do your job as required.

“That I think is a big task that they need to get those leaders back into the club and the performances will raise.”

This season, Yusuf Maart is the captain for Amakhosi but Inacio Miguel has been wearing the armband lately with Maart not starting matches regularly.
