New Chiefs Signing Lebohang Maboe On When He Could Debut

New Kaizer Chiefs signing Lebohang Maboe has confirmed he is not yet ready to play for the club, as he focuses on his fitness.

The midfielder, a product of the Chiefs development structures, has returned to Naturena after a storied career with Mamelodi Sundowns and a loan spell at SuperSport United.

Maboe was unveiled by Chiefs last month, marking his return to the club where his football journey began. Despite his significant experience gained over seven years with Sundowns, he is committed to reaching peak physical condition before his first match.

Speaking at a community event in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni, Maboe stated his personal goal is to get to a point where he can “start and finish a game.” This professional outlook highlights his desire to be an impactful and reliable player for the full 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has praised Maboe’s qualities and experience, noting that they will be a valuable asset to the team. However, Nabi reiterated that the midfielder is currently focused on his fitness regimen with the team's conditioning coach.

Maboe’s decision to be patient and work on his physical readiness demonstrates a high level of professionalism and dedication to ensuring he can meet the demands of playing for a club of Kaizer Chiefs’ stature.

‘I WANT TO FOCUS ON GETTING MY BODY BACK’

“I think right now I just want to focus on getting my body back to where I know my body can, you know, sustain the whole 90 minutes, which is not the case right now, if I’m being honest with myself as well,” he said.

“But yeah, I just want to work hard during the FIFA break and let’s see what happens after the FIFA break.”
