Cape Town City youngster Emile Witbooi has arrived in London to begin his four-week trials at English Premier League club Chelsea.
Witbooi landed in London at the start of the week and will be part of the Chelsea U18 side as the club assesses his suitability for them before deciding if he is good enough for a deal.
Witbooi has been a revelation for both South Africa and Cape Town with his massive talent attracting scouts from the Premier League giants and he will hope to impress and become the latest youngster from Mzansi to switch to Europe.
The 16-year-old helped South Africa win at the COSAFA U20 tournament in October to secure their place at the upcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Will Witbooi’s Chelsea trial be a success?
He had starred in the SAFA U15 inter-provincial tournament, where he was named Player and Midfielder of the Tournament, and also in the U19 Bayhill Premier Cup in Cape Town, where he was selected as Player of the Tournament.
Witbooi has been among the bright spots for Cape Town City in the DStv Diski Challenge where the Citizens, who are fourth on the table, just one point behind the PSL Reserve League leaders, are the highest scorers after netting 31 goals in nine matches, eight more than Stellenbosch, who have the second-best attack.
The midfielder joined Cape Town from the School of Excellence in January 2024, having received his maiden national team call-up early last year, and went on to turn out for South Africa U15 at the UEFA U16 International Development Tournament.
