The Kaizer Chiefs graduate was in action for the Romanian champions who are hoping to get a slot in the next phase of the annual competition.
South Africa international Siyabonga Ngezana played the entire game as FCSB managed to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Austrian outfit Linzer Athletik-Sport-Klub, LASK, in the play-off round of the Uefa Europa League.
The Romanian outfit dropped to the second tier of the annual competition after an aggregate 4-3 loss against Sparta Prague in the Uefa Champions League.
FCSB have been in good form, and despite playing the first leg at Raiffeisen Arena in Linz on Thursday night, their chances of getting a win were high.
Ngezana's team concede first
LASK started the game well hoping to get an early goal, but they did not get it easy against their visitors who gave as much as they received.
However, it was Ngezana's team that cracked first; in the 34th minute, Robert Zulj managed to get Adil Taoui in the danger zone. The latter held his nerves and composed himself to fent the home fans to raptures with a well-taken goal.
The goal was a motivation for FCSB who increased their tempo. Their effort paid dividends in the first minute of added time – after the end of the first 45 minutes when Valentin Cretu assisted David Miculescu for an equaliser.
Despite a few more chances in the second half, neither team managed to get the winner and the points were eventually shared. The decider will be played on Thursday, August 29 at the Steaua Stadium in Bucuresti.
When will South Africans see Ngezana in Bafana colours?
The former Kaizer Chiefs defender was given a chance by Hugo Broos in the last two 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe respectively.
Following his great showings, the Amakhosi graduate has been included in the South Africa squad to play Uganda and South Sudan in the next international break.
The teams are chasing a slot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations that will be hosted by Morocco. Bafana will host Uganda Cranes on September 6 before facing the Bright Stars away in Juba four days later.
