‘Not the Chiefs of Tshabalala & Doctor Khumalo’ – Why Nabi is displeased despite win

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nassredine Nabi has called on the club’s supporters not to get carried away by their victory over Richards Bay on Tuesday.

Chiefs secured a 2-1 league win which was inspired by captain Yusus Maart, who set up Wandile Duba and Ashley Du Preez for the two goals, before Richards Bay pulled one back in injury time.

The win saw Chiefs end a run of three games without a win, moving them to sixth on the table, but having seen how inconsistent his team have been this season, Nabi warned fans against thinking they are now back as he feels they are still miles away from challenging for titles.

“The process is not for one [game], it’s not because we win, the process is done,” Nabi told SuperSport TV.

“The objective for the level of Kaizer Chiefs is very, very high. I think yes mentally it’s good, some moments in the game are good. But without consistency and efficiency for the third goal we need more work.

“But the three points are very good for the club. Mentally it’s not easy to play the second half with 10 men. It feels good. But for the process [it’s not done].

“It’s not Kaizer Chiefs [of old], remember Kaizer Chiefs before with Tshabalala, with Doctor Khumalo, this is a high level. Not like today.”

It is the same message Nabi has been hammering in the minds of Chiefs supporters not to get excited by the current team which he feels still needs much more to compete.

Chiefs, who had lost two and drawn one of their previous three games, wasted a number of opportunities to extend their lead before Richards pulled one back late in the game.
