Olisa Ndah: What is stalling Mamelodi Sundowns move

Published on by

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly still in discussions with the representatives of defender Olisa Ndah regarding a potential transfer.

The former Orlando Pirates defender was identified as a key target for Masandawana ahead of the 2026/27 season. Ndah is currently a free agent after his contract with Stellenbosch FC expired at the end of last season, following a short stint in the Cape Winelands.

While talks between Sundowns and the Nigerian international’s camp are ongoing, sources indicate that the two parties have not yet reached an agreement.

Why Sundowns are taking time on Ndah

According to KickOff, a significant obstacle complicating the deal is Sundowns’ foreign player quota. The club’s five available international spots are currently filled by Marcelo Allende, Arthur Sales, Brayan Leon, Miguel Reisinho, and Nuno Santos, as per Premier Soccer League (PSL) regulations.

However, Sundowns may have a strategic reason to keep the negotiations active. The club is reportedly monitoring Ndah’s citizenship status, as the defender is close to becoming eligible to apply for South African citizenship. He has resided in the country since joining the Buccaneers in August 2021.

If Ndah successfully obtains citizenship, he would be registered as a local player, which would resolve the foreign quota issue and simplify the transfer significantly.

Reisinho’s exit could open the door

Another potential solution for Sundowns could be the departure of Miguel Reisinho. The midfielder has been linked with a move away from the club before the current transfer window closes.

Should Reisinho leave, a foreign player slot would become available, greatly improving Sundowns’ ability to sign the Enugu-born defender.

For now, discussions continue as the club carefully weighs the sporting benefits against the registration challenges before making a final decision on their next move.
