The young Buccaneers are keen for maximum points after last weekend’s setback

Orlando Pirates Reserves will be looking for their first win in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) when they visit Cape Town City at the Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday.

It’s the second of back-to-back DDC festivals to start the 2024/25 campaign, with the action moving from KwaZulu-Natal to Mpumalanga, ahead of another exciting showcase of South Africa’s up-and-coming football talent.

Saturday’s fixture is billed as the first home outing for the young Buccaneers, who earned a point in the season opener after a goalless stalemate away to AmaZulu.

Will Orlando Pirates handle the hot Cape Town City?

Finding themselves in seventh place ahead of Match Day 2, Pirates will be eager to begin their ascent to more familiar territory near the top of the table early on in their campaign.

However, they come up against a Cape Town City that recorded the biggest win of the opening weekend, after thrashing Sekhukhune United 6-2.

Meanwhile, Pirates’ rivals Kaizer Chiefs will be aiming for back-to-back wins when they face Chippa United at the FNB Stadium on Sunday.

Chiefs started the season with a 2-0 win over two-time champions Golden Arrows and will feel that maximum points are possible against the Chilli Boys.

Contrasting fortunes for Sundowns & Stellies

Last season’s runners-ups Mamelodi Sundowns are at home to Marumo Gallants at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, looking for a second straight win after beating Richards Bay 3-0 on matchday one.

In other matches, Bernard Parker’s TS Galaxy will start their campaign against SuperSport United at Tsakane Stadium on Saturday, the same day when Magesi FC take on AmaZulu at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

On Sunday, holders Stellenbosch are at home to Richards Bay, Polokwane City host Royal AM as Sekhukhune welcome Arrows.
